About this Study
We are testing a new drug called MucoCept-CVN to see if it is safe and well-tolerated in the vagina. MucoCept-CVN contains a Lactobacillus bacteria that naturally lives in a healthy vagina. Scientists were able to add a protein to this drug, called Cyanovirin, that may help block HIV.
This is the first time that MucoCept-CVN is being tested in humans, which is exciting! We want to study whether the bacteria can grow in the vagina and if it can later be cleared with antibiotics.
The drug does not contain HIV, and it is not used to prevent HIV at this time.
If MucoCept-CVN proves to be safe and effective, this drug may one day help protect women from HIV by producing antiviral proteins.
